Let there be light

The prisms and reflector of the South Stack Lighthouse, Anglesey, Wales. The rotating lens and reflector float on a bed of mercury, revolving slowly to send the beam across the water. The lamp itself is a 150 watt halogen light and is tiny, the size of a household bulb. Originally it was an oil lamp and the oil was transported to the lighthouse by donkey, down a steep winding path and across the bridge in yesterday's picture.
