This marvellous flowering tree was in the botanic gardens in Funchal. I'd never seen anything quite like it before. The species originates in Mexico if memory serves me right.
Nor I, Grouser. That is absolutely spectacular. Positively radiant. I would love one of those in our garden. Couldn't nip back and get me a cutting could you!

Each one of those could make for a magical macro shot. This is a truly magnificent flower. The branches remind me of the particular species of cabbage tree I have in my garden, but alas, mine doesn't flower!

Yes, kinda has a Mexican look to it . . and what a fantastic blaze it makes in this image. Reminds me of those 'plates' from some botanical book. Very precise.

This is really quite beautiful, Grousy! The blossoms look a bit like a bougainvillea.

@Lesley: Yes I agree, I thought that when I saw it. However the tree itself, or at least the leaves are somewhat fig like and although I'm not sure I think these flowers are flowers unlike on bougainvillea where they are bracts (modified leaves) I believe.
Whenever I'm in a warmer, near tropical climate, I get envious of the flowering trees that can grow there.
This is a remarkable close up of one that is clearly spectacular. A fine shot.
