Obregado Rabacal

Posted by
grouser (Ludlow, United Kingdom) on 1 April 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A last look at a final waterfall. Farewell to the finches. Despite being quite tame they demonstrated to me just how hard it is to take a good bird photo. This is the best of a bad bunch and I didn't even manage to get one at all of the vibrant little Firecrests that were hopping about with them. So to the tunnel again and a kilometre of flickering light. This time we know what is at the other end. Hasta la Vista (or whatever the Portuguese equivalent is) Rabacal.

What an interesting post today! I like all three shots. My attempts at bird photography have been weak to terrible! :-) I like your fluffy looking guy quite a bit! Have a good April.

haha... love it, you crammed a lot of info here !! I've never had any luck with birds and this one is great. And, is that a little altar at the entrance to the tunnel ?

@Roman: Yep the Virgin Mary in one and Jesus in the other I think. There were also niches in the tunnel which contained idols once.

NarB from Belgium

Très beau montage, j'aime beaucoup.

A lovely compilation to end the series, and it would look great with a nice border...!! ;-)

@observing: What colour would you go for Mike?

dobbino from Cape Town, South Africa

Proof positive that you will never forget this trip - you have some really fine and memorable images from it, and these are no exception.

@dobbino: Quite so Rob. For such a small Island it has an awful lot to offer. I'd happily revisit at the drop of a hat. More pics of other parts still to come.

k@ from Paris, France

A very pertinent montage of these 3 shots ! Gives a great reading of the whole story !

This little collection sits together very well. No apology needed on the finch image, either. Nice job.

@Ronnie 2¢: A little highlight in the eye perhaps. I could/should have popped one in.

Wonderful, Sir Grouseful of the Spanish Waterfall. Yes, birds are very difficult to photograph. This I know. They don't sit, they flit. Very annoying.

@Bookfool: and hop and twitch Just when I press the button. If it was film I'd be broke.

Marion from Cincinnati, United States

a fantastic collage! I love the combination and the shot of your bird is great! :)

2 Apr 2009 1:37pm

@Marion: I think its face is in a slightly unfortunate shadow and it could have done with a highlight in the eye. I could have plonked one in I suppose. I certainly would have if I had been painting it.

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand

A great collection of images:-)
