On our way back to the chain ferry we turn aside to visit the Tolverne riverside pub. Opposite the pub are these merchant ships, just two of many that are parked in the deep inlet of the river Fal waiting for a revival in world trade. They could be there some time.
This place has much of historical interest. It was the area headquarters for the Normandy landings in the second world war and the departure point for thousands of American troops heading for Omaha beach
