Ludlow Castle

Posted by
grouser (Ludlow, United Kingdom) on 30 July 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio.

After the kind words on the past two days I was a trifle stumped over what to post. It's funny what strikes a chord in people. When I exhibit paintings and sculpture it's often the pieces I think are the best that elicit the least response and there seems to be a similar randomness when I post photographs here. I guess it's the difference between looking with an eye that knows the background behind the picture and one that is seeing a completely fresh image and therefore probably viewing it more objectively. Anyway here is a recent view of Ludlow Castle. The now familiar (last three years) July monsoon season shows in the clouds.

Fabulous sky! I like the contrast between it and the castle and green vegetation. Nice!

I concur fully with what you say above, and I think the completely fresh and unbiased look makes some of the images almost come alive again for the person who has taken and posted them - I really enjoy it when it happens. For this photo, the dramatic clouds to me overshadow the castle, even though the combination works well.

A fine landscape view of the castle. The threatening clouds add drama to the image. Nice shooting.

magnificence the kind of photo that is in my mind, when I read a novel with ghost and castles and chained prisoners....bravo!

@Lorraine: and so it should be dear, Anne Boleyn was banged up there for a while and we all know how she ended up. However I guess there were roofs still on the halls then, and I think she pretty much had the run of the place rather than being chained in some dank dungeon.

Beautifully captured, especially the glowering sky and the intense blue around the castle.

I think that has a lot to do with it, Sir Grousalot. When you paint or take a photograph, you're also trying to get across the emotions you felt at the time and other people aren't necessarily going to pick up on emotion but you can't help remembering how you felt. Love the sky in this one. And, I adore castles, also.
