We traversed Ben Rinnes from east to west and on our descent encountered these strange rock formations.
Look at that sharp rock ! Great sensation with those dancing clouds above. Pure light is a gift ! Thks

Tremendous view Grouser, are you a natural climber? (The leg won't be too long now.)
17 Sep 2009 10:08am
@Curly: More of a walker with a bit of scrambling. Would have gone for climbing if I had had the opportunity when younger maybe. My brother in law is a climbing addict and has taken me out a couple of times but I no longer have the flexibility of youth or the feeling of invulnerability either.
Wow,excellent find and as always a tremendous sky !!

Looks like a stack of American Pancakes to me (and I'm a geologist!). The clouds are lovely here...another fabulous shot..the weather looks particularly clear while you were here.

@MrsAmber: I'm pretty sure the rock is granite, so what caused it to form those layers impersonating a sedimentary rock do you think? There are more and bigger versions as we carry on down the mountain. One is lined up for tomorrow.
Wow Grouser, spectacular stratified rock, super find! and the background, is pretty darned divine too ;)

@Lorraine: Yes I'm glad we decided to do the traverse rather than return the way we came, even though it meant yomping off the path through tick country, further down, as we would have missed this and the ra6ther spectacular rock I aim to post tomorrow.
magnifique paysage !

one word -- GORGEOUS. :)

ok -- faaabulous processing also!! ;)
A fine shot of this rock with a difference in hardness apparently. It seems so strange to see a lone rock, like this one, sitting out there alone. Nice image.

Good evening, grouse,
perfect, this beautiful landscape with the small rock in the foreground. The white of clouds in the sky complete the whole picture. Best regards Christel
