Digging for bait

Posted by
grouser (Ludlow, United Kingdom) on 25 January 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

As the sun sets over Swansea Bay a solitary figure on the beach searches for bait.
This is posted in advance in case I did hit the road earlier and haven't got back quite yet, in the spirit of keeping things moving along so to speak.

NIKON D70s 1/80 second F/8.0 90 mm (35mm equiv.)

An image with a huge space but full of light and shadow. A small figure humanizes this big empty space!

Self-Indulgence from Chicagoland, United States

Nicely captured. What kind of bait are they looking for in this wet ground?

25 Jan 2010 4:51pm

@Self-Indulgence: Lugg Worms I think, or possibly shell fish of some kind

k@ from Paris, France

The leaving man giving the scale is so good here, love this blue hue and the whole atmosphere, speaks of loneliness as much of freedom, sometimes they go hand in hand before we're ready for a true meeting...

A fine low-water shot of the bay. I like the lonely feeling the tiny figure creates in this shot. Well done.

the colors and the composition are wonderful! Did you have rain boots on? Did you get to squish around making funny noises with your shoes? ....It looks awfully muddy ;)

25 Jan 2010 6:56pm

@Marion: It's sand, though the colours in the shot don't give that impression, and was quite firm

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

Love those inky tones in the sand . . the whole image has a feeling of time slowly ticking . . the way it often feels faced with tides.

Alivia from Saint-Etienne, France

Beautiful colors of sky and textures of sand where reflected light. The space is huge and we have a great sense of freedom.

Love this lighted line near the man...he seems to be surching "her" (the light) and the first level and angle composed the rest of your picture very well.
