I pass this beautiful dead oak often on one of my walks and have seen it in many moods. Despite being dead for many years it has a compelling presence and the pared down structure is a lovely natural sculpture.
A very strong composition...the light and color are wonderful...great shot!!!

The light was very hard, but this powerful tree fills the frame very well.

This is a very majestic old oak tree (it does not really look dead to me because it is so beautiful) Great photo, great lighting, and contrasts. :) I hope they will never cut it down.

Dead brilliant. It's a lovely natural sculpture; great textures to be seen. I hope the council doesn't chop it down..

@MrsAmber: It's in the middle of a field on farmland so no council/ health and safety worries there. Past its sell by date for timber and I suspect it has been left for the rich habitat these gently decaying trees provide.
Its branches are amazing just as alive ! A very beautiful photo !

I like this old tree for its attractive branches and the strong graphic pattern it presents to the world. I'm glad someone has decided to leave it in this state rather than cutting it down. Very nice shot.

Só majestic, and beautiful..is there really not a tíny bit life in it anymore?
24 Mar 2010 4:01pm
@Thea: Only life after death. It will provide a rich habitat for insects etc.
One day some little man is going to slap a felling order on this tree, thank you for sharing it with us while its still standing...How do you get an Elephant up an Oak tree ?...Sit it on an acorn and wait 50 years. ;>)

Amazing! Nature's sculpture. Your capture and processing are very sympathetic. The grey tones and shadows on the branches are very vivid and sharp.

Good evening, Grouse,
despite the bare branches, the oak is a beauty. The individual details, type and color-perfect, brilliant, and of course reflected. Furniture made of oak wood to keep for life.
Wonderful evening and thank you for your nice comment. Dear greetings Christel

Even in death it has a spectacular presence, what a majestic tree...! Superbly captured here grouser, and it would make a great record in B&W.

@Michael: Funny you should say that. I do have a B/W version :)
This tree must have seen Robin Hood in action.... ;-)
