Hanging on by her fingertips

Posted by
grouser (Ludlow, United Kingdom) on 9 September 2010 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

The cliff is very popular with climbers and has been bolted in places. These are permanent fixed anchor points on the cliff face where ropes can be attached to give the climber protection. Sometimes an extension pole is used to clip the rope on before the climb even commences. Tut tut, it's not for the purist :) This girl was using just such a device and fell off shortly after this shot was taken. Fortunately the rope held and the bloke on the other end let her down gently.

Sounds great fun, but i have a few climber friends and they would frown upon the thought of fixed anchor points. and an extension pole haha.

My b-in-law is into climbing. He would approve of training aids but yes he would be a purist! I ca nsee why this is a popular area as looks like lots of foot/hand holds there.
