Mekong Sunset

Posted by

The sun sets on our last evening in Vientianne. Afterwards we return to the hotel and spend a tense hour or so loitering in the lobby waiting to be picked up and taken to the bus station for the sleeper bus to take us down south to Pakse and Four Thousand Islands. Eventually rather later than anticipated it all happens. The bus has no seats only beds. There are two tiers of doubles down each side. We find we are at the back in a five berth bed. I'm joined by my three lady companions and an utterly delectable Lao girl. Sadly I get one end of the row, Mrs G firmly ensconced next to me, while our new found friend is at the other. Still it's the first time I can say, with some truth that I shared a bed with four women, and a novel experience it was too :) At various points cakes and water are tossed at us by the bus assistant. Then we motor through the night, following the mighty river south.
