We head back towards Angkor, stopping on the way at Banteay Srei. This is one of the most beautifully and intricately carved temples in the Angkor complex. Building of this Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva was begun in 967
Just the plinth that it sits on must have taken forever to make, let alone the completed temple-amazing place

Great angle and framing to capture this amazing temple. The carving still looks so detailed but also beautifully aged with the lichen.

An amazing example of superb craftsmanship at an early age. I wonder how many smaller projects an apprentice had to do before he could attempt something so elaborate. Fine shooting.

Is it local stone?
It has a very deep red colour, quite something for a sandstone (if that's what it is).

@Curly: Yes sandstone. It's quite soft too yet in remarkably good condition. The shelter of the jungle perhaps. Don't know how local though. The temples in the Angkor complex seem to draw on quite q wide variety of stone, and bricks as well.
wow.. what a structure.. very impressive . glad your shot is so clear and chrisp and shows all details perfectly well .
