Comares

Posted by
grouser (Ludlow, United Kingdom) on 29 July 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Some of the limestone pillars that made Comares so easily fortified. A secret path traverses these pillars, sometimes cut right underneath them, to Fuente Gordo (Fat Spring) that ensured there was always a good water supply. It was taken from the spring by mules to cisterns dug in the rock on the plateau above. The path still survives though the fortifications that protected it have gone.
