Back on the Gower we take a trip to the north side of this thumb shaped peninsular on the Welsh South coast. Here are acres of sand and perched in the middle a lighthouse
Here I am with my coffee waiting for a bikini...hope me thermos stays warm. best…jf

How odd to see this lighthouse.... here, it seems to sitting right in the middle of a sandy beach.
A lovely shot, even without the bikini. ;-)

Looks a very peaceful and calm place, I'd prefer to see the lighthouse a little off centre to help the composition. However I'm left puzzling over how and why they put it there, I assume it has a foundation of firm bedrock.

@Curly: The foundation is a bit of puzzle but I assume the lighthouse is there acting to identify dangerous sandbanks. Yes a bit of cropping on the right to give it more of a portrait format would do the trick but I have to say I quite like the way it makes it come right back at you. I'm compounding the 'Slap dab in the middle' tomorrow too:)
A superb composition and beautiful tones .

Quite a surreal image with the lighthouse perched in the middle of a sea of sand.

It looks quite isolated and surreal there, though one normally doesn't find lighthouses in the centre of cities ;) ... a lovely frame with very pleasing blue tones.

I alwayslove lighthouses . They make me think about past and active my imagination . For me it is a way to go into the stories .. maybe magical stories !
And now here this one is a blue magic which comes from fairytales .

Lovely lighthouse shot Grouser - love the vast expanses of land that surround it.

Wonderful show that gives us the sea, the sky, the beach. Excellent POV. The blue lights are beautiful ... A poetic and romantic picture! A hug, Adela

The lighthouse stands out very well in this fine beach shot. I like the curve in the foreground water too. Nicely done.

Blue and grey...superb !!!

Aww! It looks lonely!

If's fun to break the composition rules. This works for me. ;-)

Thats Whitford lighthouse Grouse,it's cast iron, and built on 80 odd piles,it was up for sale recently for the princely sum of £1,but before you start rushing to buy,it will cost you £100,000 to renovate it.

@Jeff: Access is not great either:) Thanks for the info Jeff
It looks like a very lonely spot to be.

I think I would crop this to a pano, and 'trim' a bit off the right, because the beach scene is really striking!

@Judy aka L@dybug: I think the big sky emphasises the isolation of the lighthouse, despite its attachment to the land and this feeling would be reduced with the crop you suggest, I would agree with you if the sky were less interesting. I would probably have panned the camera down then to include more foreground.
for different folks
See tomorrow for the same flaunting of rules and even more sky :)
I love the grays and the blues of this photo. Was this taken during low tide or is the way it usually looks? I like the isolation and sort of desolateness.

Thanks, G, for your insight on this image. Your "big sky" in the UK is such a contrast to the skies in our northwest that I missed that. I agree with your "different strokes for different folks" ... in the end, it truly is in the eye of the beholder!

This is like an image from the imagination . . a box of thoughts.
