Alcazar de Segovia

Posted by
grouser (Ludlow, United Kingdom) on 11 April 2013 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Originating in the twelvth Century the Alcazar was badly damaged by fire in 1862. Restoration was begun twenty years later and the renovated building apparently became the inspiration for the Disneyland castle in Florida.

I am a castle junkie. Nature dominates here even though the castle spires reach up beyond it. I like the black and white mood and how the castle grows out of the dry winter growth as though inseparable from it. It is sad in a way, as I worry that man and his lofty arrogant creations are just future ruins in the making. Over and over, ruins. Until we learn.
