So we hit the road again. Having got burnt on the toll road from Bilbao where the charge was more that the cost of the petrol we used, we select a route avoiding toll road on the Sat-Nav. I've looked at the map and expect it to take us on a route that more or less mirrors the toll road. However it seems the Sat-Nav has a more direct way in mind, which turns out to be over an 1800 metre high pass. As we wind up the snow either side gets deeper and deeper but the road remains mercifully dry and clear, thanks to the snowploughs we have seen on our way to Segovia.
We plan to stop at the top
for a photo op,
but when we reach it there is a huge mass of cars filling every space and a continuous line coming up the mountain from Madrid, lured out by the exceptional weather. So all I could do was take a few drive bys
