Medina Azahara

So our return journey begins. On the way north we stop at the ruined city of Medina Azahara, just outside of Cordoba. This huge palace and its surrounding buildings were only occupied for about eighty years, before being sacked in a civil war, looted for building materials and sinking into obscurity. The large rectangle in the top left frame shows what's left of the mosque, which was the first to be accurately aligned to Mecca, if I have my facts right.
