The leaves (rushes) from this plant were used on floors in medieval times. When trodden on, I understand, they give off a mildly hallucinogenic gas. Never got round to trying it myself :)
A lovely flower which appears would be of interest to the drug experimenter.

Yellow flags used to symbolize disease aboard ships, or for marking 'houses of infection'. But I guess that has nothing to do with Iris who I remember was very forthcoming.

This is a beautiful flower. I like the bright yellow. We need to go and pick some right now!
