At the top of Cartland Fell iS The Hospice. On hearing the name for the firST time I had imagined something like a sanatorium, however the reality turned out to be a simple refuge for anyone benighted on the fell :)
I must confess I poSTed a shot of this sign on an ST in AuguST 2014, however I never got a picture of the outside that visit as the weather was terrible. (Horizontal rain if I remember correctly) This double image tells a better STory I think.
The STrange looking device on the roof is a circular plate with all the landscape features labelled and a movable pointer so that you can sight them accurately.
